Lao Family offers a comprehensive menu of services that help individuals secure and retain employment and achieve self-sufficiency. Our Affiliate One-Stop Business + Career Centers in Oakland and San Pablo provide an extensive range of Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and Employment Development Department (EDD) services for those seeking employment.
Financial & Family Support Services
Families and individuals with low income have poorer health outcomes. They are at a greater risk for a variety of diseases, at greater risk of homelessness, and often live shorter lifespans.
Therefore, Lao Family focuses extensive attention on removing barriers to securing income support, federal public benefits, earned income tax credits, income tax refunds, access to Second Chance bank account products, accessing housing due to blemished credit and less than the required income ratios that landlords look for, removing obstacles to accessing healthcare service and insurance, good jobs with career ladders and benefits, skills training and education programs, and meeting their basic needs through free and low-cost sources from clothing, household goods, food, utility benefits and transportation supports.
Employment Programs
We work with individuals experiencing various life, work, and financial situations. We offer service in 35+ languages, including after regular work hours and through mobile units. Our trained staff is culturally informed on best practices. They actively engage individuals and families to participate in creating measurable goals and objectives. Our work together leads to economic independence and community connections.
We are working with 50+ sustaining prevention and intervention solution contracts with 16 government Partners, Foundations, Donors and Enterprises. Our Core Programs are 10 to 40-year contracts—partnerships with 1000+ groups.
